Living Debt Free Can Be A Reality For You Too
Shocking Truth Revealed: America Loves Slavery
A lack of living debt free has lead to the greatest hypocrisy in the history of the world. A flag waving, liberty loving nation born from a fight to free herself from the bonds of tyranny... living under a grand illusion. The fact is this... Americans are hypocrites. With their mouths they cry "Freedom" and with their pocketbooks they silently whisper "I choose slavery". Americans are enslaved. God along with our forefathers established a free nation for a free people. We have traded our birthright for mess of pottage. In America today, we "must" have the new home. We "must" have the fancy cars. Why? Because everybody else has them. If we don't, we can't truly be happy. That's the logic. Using this logic leads us to the next conclusion. "Well, if I have to have these things to be happy, then I better get them, regardless of whether not I have the money." So we borrow the money and pay it back with interest. Anybody that has looked at an amortization schedule knows that this is financial suicide but "Hey... Everybody else does it so it must be OK". So... we do it. We get the loan and buy the stuff. Then we slug it out for 40 - 60 hours per week so we can make the payment on the stuff. Our children trade us for "stuff". But hey... our families are our number 1 priority... So we are working hard to give them everything they "need". Really? I'd be willing to bet that when your son or daughter turns 18 and reflects back on their childhood, they're not going to say "Gee Mom, I sure wish we could have had that 60 inch plasma TV."
Living Debt Free - There Is Another Way
Ok.. That's the bad news. The good news is this. Living debt free is possible. Even for you? Yes.. For anyone that wants it bad enough. You can live debt free. You can shed the shackles of bondage that encircle you with crushing debts. You'll need to understand a few things first.
The Good Debt, Bad Debt LIE
Listen folks. All debt is BAD Debt. Yes.. you heard that right. Many will argue there is such a thing as good debt. They say that bad debt is debt that costs you money like credit card debt, car loans etc. The gurus (selling books and seminars) will then preach that debt that makes you money is "good". They are half right. Debt that costs you money is bad. That's right. Debt that makes you money is bad too! Can you use debt to make bucks? You bet. In the process can you be crushed by slight shifts in the economy? Yes! Can you put your family's financial future on the line by playing the Vegas style games with your families future? Absolutely! The only good debt is the debt that's been eliminated. This is how you can become FREE.... This is how living debt free can truly liberate you and allow you to live the life of your dreams. Living debt free can empower you not only to help yourself, but also will put you in a position to truly help other people. Will it take sacrifice? Yes! Will it be worth it? Absolutely!
Mick Jagger Is A Genius
I hope you've heard the song. It was made famous by The Rolling Stones (with Mick Jagger as the lead singer.) It goes a little something like this. "You can't always get what you want.... You can't always get what you want.... but if you try sometimes you just might find.... you get what you need. Aaaah yeah!" One big problem with Americans today is this. We feel that we should get what we want and we should get it right now. If you've got this philosophy, you need to destroy it. Start thinking about things from a "need" perspective. Ask yourself these questions. "What kind of house do I NEED... to survive... to cover my head, to provide shelter for my family?" "What kind of car do a NEED... to get me from point A to point B... to keep me warm in the winter... that will keep me from breaking down on the road?" When we make purchases solely from a "want" perspective we get ourselves in BIG trouble because we start to buy things we can't afford. Oh.. but wait... you say... I can afford those things. My house payment is 1/3 of my income. My car payment is within the established debt to income ratio. Folks.. who sets those parameters? The banks! The same banks that want to get your money. They want to get as much interest from you as possible while ensuring that you'll still be able make the payments. Should you really use the enemies advice to make your game plan? I don't think so. What does it mean to "afford" something? I suggest that it does not mean that you can simply make the payment. When I say.. "I can afford it", it means that I can pay for the thing with cash. (and have cash left over.) Payments have nothing to do with my perception of "afford." Does this mean you can't get what you want? No! It just means that you should wait until you really have the cash... then buy the stuff you want. Going into debt for "wants" is a bad idea. If you implement this idea into your personal philosophy, living debt free will be a closer reality for you than you think.
The Joys Of Living Debt Free
With debt free living, here's what you can expect. When you want to take a vacation... you do it and pay cash for it. You have a great time in Acapulco because you realize that you won't be paying for the trip for the next 2 years. When you want to quit your job and start that business of your dreams you DO IT. You've got the freedom and flexibility to follow your passions because you've stayed out of bondage. When one of your neighbors falls upon hard times and needs some help making their mortgage payment so they don't lose their house... guess who comes to the rescue? You do! And you feel GREAT because you had the financial resources to help them out.
You Can Do It!
Don't think you can? I'm here to tell you you're wrong! You can start living debt free. Will their be sacrifices? Yes. Let me show you what my wife and I did when we got married. Did we want a house? Yeah, you bet we did. All of the other couples our age were going in debt to buy homes. They were buying the homes with the basements and the family rooms and the new carpet and all the "stuff". What did we do? We are committed to living debt free. We analyzed our choices. We ran 5 year projections based on where our equity would be if we bought a house, rented a house or purchased a mobile home. Guess what we found? We discovered that if we purchased a modest mobile home, paid it off fast, and saved money... not only would we be living debt free but we'd be much further ahead financially 5 years down the road.

So there you see our modest home. I can tell you one thing. Our little family has had fun experiences in that home that we'll cherish for the rest of our lives. We've grown close, we've laughed and we've shared a comfortable living space together. My children have had the luxury of having their dad around. We've had the peace to know that we can make choices and chase dreams without being tied down to the shackles of a big mortgage. So there you have it. You may have to do things a little different from the crowd. If we can do it... so can you!
